Maine Take-Home Pay Calculator
Estimate your Maine paycheck using ME's 2025 state tax brackets, plus federal income tax and FICA — with a note on the new millionaire surcharge starting in 2026.
What comes out of a Maine paycheck
Maine applies three brackets from 5.8% to 7.15%. Because the top rate starts at a relatively modest $63,450 (single filers), many full-time workers pay at least part of their income at Maine's top marginal rate.
ME-taxable income: $80,000 − $4,000 pre-tax − $15,000 standard deduction = $61,000. ME tax on $61,000 (5.8%-6.75% brackets) ≈ $3,863.
Federal tax (on $61,000 taxable) ≈ $8,334 · ME state tax ≈ $3,863 · Social Security $4,960 · Medicare $1,160.
Annual take-home ≈ $57,683 → about $2,219 per biweekly paycheck (72.1% of gross).
Maine's new millionaire surcharge, starting 2026
Beginning with the 2026 tax year, Maine adds a 2% surcharge on taxable income above $1,000,000 (single filers and heads of household), $750,000 (married filing separately), or $1,500,000 (married filing jointly). This only affects a small number of very high earners and doesn't change anything for the vast majority of Maine workers. This calculator uses 2025 figures, before the surcharge takes effect.
Common mistakes when estimating Maine take-home pay
- Applying the 2026 millionaire surcharge to 2025 income. It doesn't take effect until the 2026 tax year.
- Using single-filer thresholds for a joint return. Maine doubles thresholds for married filing jointly.
- Expecting a local city income tax. No Maine city or town levies one.
